Sensitive
skin can seem like problem skin if exposed to caustic
ingredients in skin care products. Although one can be sensitive to almost
any ingredient the chances of adverse responses are substantially less in
natural skin care.
Our soaps are made using a traditional
Castile soap formula. Our soap is of a high quality,
exceptional mildness, and gentleness. All of our soaps are left unscented.
True Castile soaps are the mildest and most moisturizing of all soaps.
Made from olive oil,
Castile soap was named for the Castilla region in Spain, and
exported for centuries to royalty throughout Europe. It became famous as
the "Queen of Soap", but is rarely found today.
True Castile traditionally is made from 100% olive oil. Olive oil gives
the soap its mildness and gentleness. We use Certified Organic Extra
Virgin Olive Oil. True Castile Soaps are harder and more expensive to
make. Most soap makers use a cheaper lower grade or pomace olive oil.
Olive-pomace oil means oil extracted from the pomace using chemical
solvents, mostly hexane and by heat.
Many soap makers call their vegetable oil based soaps Castile. A True
Castile soap or Pure Castile Soap must be produced from a mixture that is at least 80% olive
oil. Many of these modern Castile soaps contain little or no olive oil. In
addition these modern soaps are made using coconut oil. Soaps made from
coconut oil are very drying and can cause skin irritation.
